The Cannon Houston vs BEYOND Westchase — Boutique Coworking Compared

The Cannon Houston is one of the most recognized startup coworking brands in the city, with locations in multiple submarkets. BEYOND FlexSpace is in Westchase only. Here is the honest comparison of pricing, community, vibe, and which type of founder each one actually fits.

BEYOND FlexSpace Team

The Cannon Houston has the most recognized boutique coworking brand in the city, especially in the startup community. Founded in 2017, it's been the de facto "Houston startup hub" for years. As a competitor in Westchase, we get asked constantly: "How do you compare to The Cannon?" Our Google Ads see roughly 65 monthly impressions on Cannon-related queries (cannon west, the cannon houston, cannon brittmoore, common desk west, etc.) — proof the interest is real.

This is our honest take. We're not unbiased — we're a direct competitor. But "directly competitive" doesn't have to mean "dismissive." For some founders, The Cannon is the right answer. For some, we are. Here's how to tell.

The 30-second answer

The Cannon Houston — multi-location boutique coworking, founded 2017, originally startup-focused. Best known for The Cannon West (Memorial / NW Houston) campus.

BEYOND FlexSpace — single location, Westchase (9800 Richmond Ave), boutique coworking with focus on professional services + Hispanic business community.

Pick The Cannon if:

  • You're a tech startup or building something venture-fundable
  • You want the Houston startup ecosystem density
  • You're near Memorial / NW Houston geographically
  • You want larger multi-floor campus feel
  • You want demo days, pitch nights, accelerator programming

Pick BEYOND if:

  • You're a professional services business (consultant, attorney, advisor, agency)
  • You're near or south of I-10 (Westchase, Galleria, Sugar Land, Bellaire)
  • You want a smaller, calmer community
  • You're a Hispanic-owned business or value bilingual operations
  • You want month-to-month flexibility at lower entry pricing

The Cannon Houston locations (2026)

The Cannon has expanded since its 2017 launch. As of 2026, locations include:

  • The Cannon West (NW Houston / Memorial area) — the flagship campus, multi-building
  • The Cannon Tower (Downtown)
  • The Cannon East (East End / EaDo area)
  • Smaller satellite locations

The Cannon West campus is by far the largest and most active — multi-building startup community with food + beverage on site, event programming.

BEYOND FlexSpace location

We're in one location: 9800 Richmond Ave, Westchase, Houston TX 77042. Single building, ~24,000 sq ft, founded as a Hispanic-owned boutique. We don't have multi-location.

Pricing comparison (2026 approximate)

The Cannon

  • Hot desk membership: $200–$300/mo
  • Dedicated desk: $300–$500/mo
  • Private office (smaller): $700–$1,200/mo
  • Private office (mid): $1,200–$1,800/mo
  • Private office (larger): $1,800–$3,000/mo
  • Lab / workshop space (Cannon West specific): variable
  • Contracts: month-to-month standard for desk memberships; private offices often 12-month preferred

BEYOND FlexSpace (us)

  • Hot desk: $150/mo
  • Dedicated desk: $250/mo
  • Smallest private office: $399/mo
  • Mid private office: $799/mo
  • Larger private office / suite: $1,200–$1,800/mo
  • Contracts: all month-to-month by default

We're typically 25–40% lower per equivalent product. The difference pays for The Cannon's:

  • Multi-location ecosystem and brand
  • Campus feel + on-site amenities (food, lab spaces at West)
  • Startup programming and pitch event density
  • More diverse member directory

Where each one wins

The Cannon wins at

Startup ecosystem density. If you're raising venture capital, working in deep tech, or building consumer software — the founders, investors, and supporting professionals at Cannon West specifically are the highest-concentration startup community in Houston. Bumping into the right person matters more here than anywhere else in the city for startup work.

Programming density. Demo days, pitch nights, accelerator partnerships, lunch-and-learns from VCs. The Cannon hosts more startup events per month than any other Houston coworking.

Multi-location flexibility. If you have staff splitting time between Memorial and Downtown, you can have memberships at both.

Brand recognition. "I work at The Cannon" is understood instantly in Houston startup circles. This matters for some founder profiles.

Lab and physical product space (Cannon West). If your startup needs prototype space, fabrication, hardware — Cannon West has product-specific facilities most coworking doesn't.

Larger member directory. More members = more potential serendipitous connections. The Cannon West regularly has 300–500 active members across the campus.

BEYOND wins at

Price. $150 hot desk vs $200+ at Cannon. $399 private office vs $700+ at Cannon. 25–40% lower across the board for similar product class.

Westchase / SW / S Houston geography. If you're closer to Galleria, Bellaire, Sugar Land, Westchase itself, or anywhere south of I-10 — the drive to Cannon West (Memorial) is 25–40 minutes. BEYOND is in Westchase central.

Quieter, more focused environment. The Cannon's high-density community is a feature for some, a distraction for others. If you need to do head-down work and prefer fewer interruptions, BEYOND is the calmer choice.

Hispanic business community. We're Hispanic-owned and have built a bilingual operations + community angle. If you're a Hispanic-owned business or your client base is bilingual, this matters culturally and operationally.

Professional service fit. Consultants, attorneys, financial advisors, agencies — our member mix skews more professional services than startup. Your peer network at BEYOND looks more like CPA + immigration attorney + insurance agent than founder-VC.

Smaller community = closer relationships. ~80–120 active members vs Cannon's 300–500. You'll know almost everyone over time.

Flexibility. Month-to-month is our default for everything including private offices. Cannon sometimes pushes 12-month for offices.

Bilingual operations. Our front desk operates in English and Spanish natively. For Hispanic founders or businesses with bilingual clientele, this matters.

What's genuinely similar

Both:

  • Have private offices, dedicated desks, hot desks
  • Include internet, electricity, mail, conference rooms (with credits)
  • Are boutique-style (not chains like WeWork / Regus)
  • Have community programming (different density)
  • Are independently owned (not corporate chains)
  • Have month-to-month options for desk memberships
  • Allow LLC registration with the address
  • Include registered agent service (most plans)

If you ignore brand and location, the basic product structure is recognizably similar.

Decision framework

Pick The Cannon if you check 3+ of these:

  • You're building a tech startup (especially venture-fundable)
  • You're physically near Memorial / NW Houston (15 min drive to Cannon West)
  • You value being in Houston's largest startup community
  • You want frequent founder/VC events
  • You're OK with $300+ hot desk / $700+ smallest office pricing
  • You need lab / prototyping space (Cannon West specific)
  • You value brand recognition in Houston startup circles

Pick BEYOND if you check 3+ of these:

  • You're in professional services (consultant, attorney, advisor, agency, freelancer)
  • You're near or south of I-10 (Westchase, Galleria, Sugar Land, Bellaire, SW Houston)
  • You're price-sensitive ($150 hot desk, $399 office matters)
  • You want month-to-month flexibility on private offices
  • You're a Hispanic-owned business or value bilingual operations
  • You prefer a smaller, calmer community
  • You want straightforward operations without programming overhead

Pick neither and look elsewhere if:

  • You need under $150/mo — neither fits; see Small Office Under $300 Guide
  • You need under-10-minute downtown access — neither is Downtown (Cannon Tower is, but it's a satellite)
  • You need 24/7 lab / hardware fab — Cannon West does specific lab; most Houston coworking doesn't
  • You need 5,000+ sq ft of dedicated space — direct lease is often better

How to actually choose

Tour both. Each is roughly a 25–35 minute drive between them, but on the same day is possible.

Plan:

  1. Morning tour at BEYOND (Westchase). Notice the member mix, the building feel, the front desk interaction.
  2. Drive to Cannon West (Memorial area). Same morning's energy as a comparison.
  3. Talk to a current member at each location, ideally same-day, on the floor, not pre-arranged with sales. Real members give real answers.

What to ask current members:

  • "What surprised you 3 months in?"
  • "What would make you leave?"
  • "Who else here would you recommend I talk to?"

That single afternoon will give you a clearer answer than any blog post (including this one).

Quick FAQ

Is The Cannon the same as WeWork?

No. WeWork is a global chain (corporate, recovering from 2019 chaos). The Cannon is Houston-founded, Houston-owned, much smaller, distinctly startup-focused.

Does The Cannon work for non-startups?

Yes but the culture is startup-flavored. If you're a personal injury attorney or insurance agent, you'll fit fine but the events and member directory won't be as relevant to you as they would for a founder.

Does BEYOND work for tech startups?

Yes — we have tech founders as members. But our member density of startup community is much lower than Cannon's. If startup community density is critical to you, Cannon is the better fit.

Can I use The Cannon as my LLC registered address?

Yes. Both Cannon and BEYOND handle LLC registration paperwork and most plans include registered agent service.

Cost comparison: same product at each?

A roughly equivalent private office costs about 30–40% less at BEYOND vs Cannon West. A hot desk is about 25–40% less. Compare the actual unit, not the headline price.

Which has better conference rooms?

Both have good conference rooms with credits included. Cannon's West campus has more total conference rooms. BEYOND's are smaller in number but include all the standard equipment.

Does Cannon West have other coworking competitors nearby?

Yes — Common Desk Memorial, Industrious Memorial, smaller boutiques. Cannon West has the most members but isn't the only option in that submarket.

Next steps

  1. Identify which side of Houston you're closer to. Memorial/NW (Cannon West favored) or SW/W (BEYOND favored).
  1. Identify your business profile — venture startup (Cannon-leaning) or professional services / freelance / agency (BEYOND-leaning).
  1. Tour both within the same week. The "feel" difference is real and matters more than feature comparisons.
  1. Ask current members on each floor what surprised them. Real members give better answers than sales reps.
  1. Decide based on community fit + price + commute, not brand.

Tour BEYOND in 15 min — Westchase, 9800 Richmond Ave. If you're also touring Cannon West that day, mention it during the BEYOND tour and we'll point out the genuine differences honestly.
